Dance and Movement Program
Dance/Movement classes are a fun, energetic and expressive weekly experience offered one morning a week at Montessori Schoolhouse and taught by an experienced instructor from MoCo Arts, a
non-profit arts education center in Keene. Featuring dance games, sing-along songs, use of coloful props and exploration of a wide variety of music and dance forms, the classes are age-appropriate and developmentally based to meet the students where they are and to broaden and enrich their dance and movement awareness. Following directions, self expression, bodily awareness and musicality are all enhanced through playful activities. The classes include dances that require cooperation, as well as opportunities for solo expression. Concepts of improvisation, choreography and performance are introduced in the pre-K classes, while the toddler classes focus on general movement and bodily awareness. The half hour classes at the MSHOCC are uniquely designed to fit in with the curriculum of the whole school, making the students learning even more holistic and cohesive.
