Summer Camp 2010
Welcome to the Montessori Schoolhouse 2010 Summer Camp Season!

Our camp programs are packed with creative activities that help engage children in the discovery of the world around them while leading them toward greater independence, concentration, and respect for others. Montessori children learn purely for the joy of learning itself and our goal is to continue nurturing that desire during the summer months in a safe, caring environment.

Our days are filled with both outdoor and indoor play, craft activities, wagon rides, plenty of water play (sprinklers and water tables everywhere!), and educational games and stories. We’ll tend our vegetable and flower gardens, eat lunch outside at the picnic tables (weather permitting), and make many new friends. While each theme lasts for two weeks, each week will incorporate different activities so it will not be repetitive for those who are joining us for both.

Summer camp is open to children between the ages of two years and seven years old and Montessori Schoolhouse (MSH) alumni up to age eight. Children between the age of 18 months and two years old who are enrolling for the 2010/11 school year may be accepted into the camp program with approval by the Toddler Director. This is a great way for our youngest(and new) students to transition into the new school year.

Campers do not need to be registered school-year students to attend camp, although 2009/10 students will have priority registration until April 23rd, then those regsistering for the 2010/11 school year and after that it is on a first come, first served basis.

Camp registration forms are due by May 15th along with a non-refundable $25 deposit per week, although we will continue to take registrations after the 15th if openings remain. Confirmation packets will be sent to those who register and will include health forms, emergency contact forms and other information about summer camp. Space is not guaranteed until confirmed by the school office. If you register for any of the first four weeks (June 28 – July 23), payment is due by June 18th. If you register for any of the last four weeks (July 26 – Aug. 20) payment is due by July 16th .

Kathy Glimenakis and Stacie Hixson are our Camp Directors again this year. Both will be directing one week of each program, alternating weeks, and will be working with the older campers over the age of three and a half. Kathy is the Toddler Program Director and one of the original founders of our school, established in 1989. She later joined our teaching staff in 1996 and received her Montessori Infant & Toddler Certification in 2000. Stacie has been our After-care Director since 1992 and she holds a Master’s Degree in Special Education. Both will bring their creativity and love of crafts and nature to the camp programs.

Jennifer DeMarrais and Theresa Eck will be guiding our youngest campers between the age of 18 months and three and a half for all of the camp weeks. Jenn is a teacher in the Toddler Program and Theresa in the Preschool Program during the school year and both have early childhood backgrounds and have been with us for over 4 years. We will have additional camp assistants as needed to maintain a ratio one adult for every five toddler campers and one adult for every eight preschool campers. Generally, the additional assistants are some of our regular school year staff and substitutes. All of our core staff have received CPR, First Aid, and Water Safety training.

For more information please contact the Administrative Director – Lisa LeBlanc at (603) 352-3301. We hope to see you this summer!
