We encourage school visits, which provide you with the opportunity to observe a class in session, tour the environment, and talk with an experienced teacher about our philosophy and the Montessori method of teaching.
The Montessori Toddler Program is for children ages 18 months to 2.8 years old and is offered two to five days a week from 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. This is a small group of up to 12 children on any one day, with a maximum ratio of one adult for every five children. This program introduces age-appropriate activities, art, some sign language, outdoor time, daily wagon rides, a weekly dance and movement class, and fieldtrips to a local farm and apple orchard.
The Montessori Early Childhood Program (preschool) is for children ages 2.8 thru 5 years old at the start of the school year and is offered three to five days a week from 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m., and has a ratio of one adult for every eight children. In this program we promote independence and fine motor skills through skill building activities, and encourage them to explore, care for, and respect their environment and the world. We introduce subjects such as science, geography, culture, art, math, writing, language, nature and practical life skills. They also enjoy outdoor time and a weekly dance and movement class as well as fieldtrips to a local farm, apple orchard, fire station, a Colonial Theatre performance, and more.
The Extended-Day Montessori Program is offered three to five days a week and is for children generally over the age of four and typically in their second or third year of the preschool cycle. After attending the morning program described above, and then a break for lunch, they continue their day in the classrooms with the Director until 3 p.m. Parents of children deemed ready by the Director may choose this program to pursue their morning work with Montessori materials in greater depth, as well as work with additional projects related to their curriculum and additional enrichment programs.
In addition to the above school hours we offer precare starting at 7:15 a.m., as well as aftercare options from 11:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. We follow a traditional school calendar with all the usual holidays and a winter and spring class breaks, although for an additional fee, daycare is offered when classes are not in session during breaks if we have a minimum number sign up. We also offer eight weeks of summer camp for children ages two thru five years old, with priority given to current and fall enrolled students and their siblings. Information on the summer camp program and registration is mailed out each spring or by calling the school office.
Music and movement are part of the everyday fun in our classes. In addition, Montessori Schoolhouse has specialist teachers who come into the classroom and focused time for the children. These additions to our program are covered through our fundraising efforts, so no additional payment or sign-up is required.
The Movement and Music programs are held one day a week and may change without notice. Please note we are not having any movement or music program for the 2011 July and August Summer Camp Sessions.
